Sidewalk and streetscape improvements have begun on the first block of East Main Street. Improvements will include new sidewalks, handicap ramps and bulb outs at the 1st Street intersection. New lighting will also be installed as well as new landscaping to enhance this one block off section of the downtown. Work is expected to be completed in four months.
This year's Christmas Parade Theme will create memories of a joyful journey to a special Christmas place as we parade through town and join in the lighting of the City's Christmas tree. The parade will be on Saturday evening, December 7, 2013. As a special treat for the youngsters that attend this event, the Chamber of Commerce will have a drawing for three overstuffed Christmas Stockings. Golden tickets will be sent home with all school age children the week before the parade as well as being published in the Citizen Times. Add your child's name and contact information on the ticket and give the ticket to our train conductors who will walk along the parade route prior to the parade. The Mayor will draw the names of the three lucky children during the lighting of Christmas Tree ceremony. Tickets can also be submitted to the drawing during our free showing of A Polar Express on Friday, December 6th at 7 p.m. at the UK Extension Office.
Come out and join us for one the longest Christmas Parades in this region. To see the Lighting of the Tree ceremony, come early and stake your place on the Square.
